Mother's Day is A'Comin!
I mean...is there really any day that should be more celebrated?!
We give life. We give our bodies and our hearts, and basically our whole selves to the nourishment, well-being, and growth of tiny humans.
And it's not easy - no matter how you become a mom.
Whether you slow-cooked your kiddos from scratch for 9 months or opened your heart to mother babies who needed you at a moment's notice, motherhood is the most exhausting and thankless, yet beautiful and miraculous work ever known. I can confidently say there's not been a thing I've done in my 36 years that's left me more depleted and worn thin, yet so overwhelmed with joy, pride, and absolute adoration than my raising my children. Nothing.
It's rewarding and humbling, empowering and life-sucking, freeing and anxiety-inducing: A complete paradox, all the time, at every life stage. Just when you think you've mastered motherhood - that you've got it all under control - she throws you another curve ball to keep you on your toes. Thrilling.
We're the healers who kiss away boo-boos.
The listeners who hear and hold all the stories.
The advice givers. The safe harbor. The snugglers. The familiar comfort.
I could go on.
All that said, the day we celebrate Motherhood is coming up on May 12, 2024 (mark your calendars!!).
If you're looking for a gift for a mama, a grammie, an aunt, or yourself (this can serve as a hint for all the husbands out there...) consider gifting a Motherhood session!
A Little Bit Different
Now, the way I do Motherhood sessions is a little different than most.
When there are more than one or two people involved in a shoot, I can't buy into the whole "mini" session concept where we only spend 10 or 15 minutes and I hammer out sessions back-to-back. Call me crazy, but I like my sessions to be easygoing where I get a little time to chat with my clients and ease into the shoot (I'm a talker...). And with little ones involved, I want everyone to feel comfortable - not rushed to get pictures taken in rapid succession.
So we're not gonna call these "minis" - we're gonna call them "short sessions," and they're gonna last 25-30ish minutes. Notice the "ish" here...I like a little leeway.
I also don't love the idea of picking one particular date and scheduling a bunch of sessions for one single afternoon. I know that's probably the most profitable way to do things - I've tried to embrace it, I really have - but I just don't like it. If there's bad weather on that day, or the lighting is crap, then the whole situation has to be rescheduled or I have to provide images from a shoot with "bleh" lighting, which - to me - is just a bummer. I want you to love your photos. And I want to love them, too! I hate giving pictures from a session that I'm less than excited about, and even though overcast clouds certainly have their place in photography, I really LOVE a golden-lit evening with some sunflare and a backlit glow. And for a shoot celebrating a mom, that's wayyyy better than plain old overcast skies.
My Motherhood sessions look like this:
- 25-30 minute "Short Session:" Session will include digital download & printing rights for 20 photos to be selected from an edited online gallery with a full gallery upgrade available for $50.
- DISCOUNTED Mother's Day Promo Rate when booked through April 30, 2024: Mother's Day discounted rate of $195+Tax (Regular Rate: $225+ tax)
- Buy Now, Schedule This Summer: A non-refundable retainer of $80 will be due at the time of booking. The remaining $126 (which includes the sales tax for the session) will be due the day of your session in cash. If you're gifting a session, I can send a little card/certificate via email to the purchaser to print out and give to the recipient on Mother's Day. The purchaser and/or recipient can contact me to discuss scheduling a session date. Since the weather and scenery outside right now aren't great (sparse foliage/fields, less predictable weather), we can coordinate a time that yields better conditions (consistent warmer temps, lush foliage, flowers, etc). Please keep in mind I only schedule outdoor sessions in the evening to take advantage of the best light.
- Not just for Moms! Gift a session to Grammies, aunts, etc.
So, if you're looking for a meaningful gift to capture pictures of your babies with their mama, their grammy, their aunt, or a special lady in their lives who has filled any of those roles, please reach out. I'd be HONORED to capture some memories for you!
