Everyone Likes a Good Party

Ain't that the truth.

For me, it's the cake that makes a party worthwhile. Or pie. Cupcakes. Cookies. Dessert in general. Look: As long as the party has some sort of treat, I'm easily satisfied. Luckily, I was in good company with this family as their tiny lady dove headfirst into cake the same way I do every year around April 14th!

When the Wilson's contacted me about a first birthday shoot for their sweet little bug, I couldn't have been more excited. I met this family just over a year ago when they reached out for maternity photos. Tori and I bonded over our mutual love of dogs, occasional use of less-than-ladylike language, and husbands who hunt (any other archery season single moms out there?! #yassssgirl).

After a glowy maternity sesh last February, I had the privilege to shoot a newborn session for them, followed by a family session last fall when their little babe was 6 months old. Safe to say, I always enjoy getting together with them and catching up on life n'at.

Here in Western PA, the weather isn't always...how shall I say this...favorable for photos. It's about as unpredictable as your grandma after a few beers on bingo night down at the local VFD. One minute it's sunny and 70, the next minute it's snowing, and the day after we've got monsoons for a week. Every time we've scheduled an outdoor session together we've had to reschedule at least twice to accommodate frigid temperatures or endless rain, so we were all pleasantly surprised when early March graced us with nearly 70-degree temps and beautiful sunshine ... AND on the originally scheduled date!

Our session took place in a sweet little slice of wilderness in Apollo, PA complete with rocky boulders, tall pines with sunshine peeking through, and a stream cutting through the valley. Just a really nice spot!

We started with some family photos of the three of them and then popped a blanket down on the ground for some seated, snuggly photos, at which point I noticed Tyler fishing around with some sort of paper (typical man - they always find something in their pockets). I almost asked him if he'd like me to hold it for him so it didn't show up in the pictures. Well, wouldn't you believe these sneaky sneaks whipped out a sonogram picture and surprised me with the news of baby number two right as I started clicking away! It was one of those moments where I wish I'd had a photo of my own face to include in the gallery!

We ended the shoot with cake for the birthday girl and lots of congratulations and excitement about their soon-to-be little fella!

Looking forward to many more shoots with this growing family!
